Susan & Vic - Callie

When Vic and I started doing some research on the breed of dog we wanted after Casey passed away, it came down to two choices..a Havanese or Bichon.  We had an appointment in to see a lovely Havanese mom in Connecticut a few days after meeting your babies.  After leaving your home on interview day, I called the breeder in Connecticut and told her we were going to bring home a Bichon.  She knew that we were going to see you and told me she knew once we saw your puppies, we would not make the trip to Connecticut. She was right; but I want you to know that it wasn’t your litter of beautiful puppies that sold us, it was your beautiful adults that we loved so much.  I don’t remember which girl was sitting on my lap that day, but I knew I loved her and the decision was made.

I’ve attached a photo of Callie meeting our elderly neighbor Bill for the first time.  Bill loved Casey so much and keeps a picture of him next to his chair.  He was so excited when we told I’m about Callie.  He called the minute we pulled in the driveway asking if his daughter could bring him over to meet her.  There was no way I could say no.  Considering that Callie’s feet had barely touched the ground and she was exhausted, she greeted him with kisses and more kisses.  I know they will be great friends and she will be visiting him often.   Bill is very special to us so I think we can share Callie with him.

Kathie Collman

It was good to hear from you and to learn that you continue your wonderful tradition of bringing all your "Bichon Family" together.  We are sorry to miss it again but Bob, Louie and I have rented a cottage in The Cotswolds in south central England for the month of July.  We had such a wonderful experience during our 13 weeks in London in 2015 and we met so many wonderful people, we decided to go again but this time to a different part of the country.  Several people we met in London will come for a few days throughout our stay and two couples from Boston will come "across the pond" to visit.

Years ago -- before we had a home on Cape Cod -- we would go to either the Jersey Shore or the Virginia Shore every two or three years and do the same thing.  We've never been to The Cotswolds so it seemed reasonable to change the venue this time.

King Louie travels like a dream.  We've renewed all his papers and he'll have to have another visit to the internationally-licensed Vets and a rabies shot before we leave but the hard work was all done early last year when we were starting from scratch.  Many places in England are pet-friendly and we have no problem finding sitters for him when we want to do things that aren't suited for him.  In fact, last year in London two people literally "competed" to have him for the day.  And he's such a lover, he's never met a human he didn't like.

We are so incredibly thankful every day that he is part of our lives. He is the sweetest little guy....exactly 15 pounds...a beautiful coat...fabulous muscles....clean eyes and rarely sick.  He does take allergy pills in the spring and summer but other than that, nothing.  In fact, he's never even had a tic.

He has an independent streak that is perfectly charming unless you're in a hurry to go somewhere.  When he's not sure he wants to go it's like "dead dog walking" as he diddle-dallys along.  Of course, as soon as he sees we're getting on the elevator he's raring to go....we kid that he has FOMO (fear of missing out).  And if the car's involved, he does that sneeze-like thing to show us how happy he is to go.

He's a killer when it comes to getting something he wants, whether it's a touch or a treat.  He sits on his haunches and waves his front paws up and down.  Too cute and very hard to resist.

Of all the dogs we've had, he definitely gets the most comments about how beautiful he is.  It's like people just walk past him and say it...."beautiful dog."  I already said he has a perfect little body but that face can blow you away, too.  You can see in the pictures.

So, that's Louie at five.  Every night I whisper in his ear "thank you for loving us" as if he could understand.  Even if he doesn't know the words, he knows the feelings.  Thank you, Karen for making it possible for us to have him.

Enjoy the picnic and love all your babies.  I'm glad that you're enjoying your new home and I hope to see you both sometime soon.
